The Postgraduate Environment Network (PEN) was formed at the University of Melbourne in March 2006. It is affiliated to the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA) with the following aims:
- support postgraduate environment students and others in their learning
- provide a forum for students and alumni to share information, give feedback, network, organise events and projects
- promote sustainability through the activities and projects of the club
Membership: University of Melbourne postgraduate students and alumni who are studying or interested in the environment.
PEN has a committee of ten, and currently 120+ members. Committee meetings are held monthly, in the first week of the month in the Graduate Studies Centre, the University of Melbourne.
PEN holds Friday lunches at Deep Dish, workshops, green drinks nights, start and end of year picnics, film nights and more. Many postgrads are studying part time, or are studying in different departments and disciplines and don't often get the chance to meet one another. PEN was created so that postgraduate students with an interest in sustainability could come together to share ideas, network and support each other.
